Melesio Casas
was born in El Paso, Texas in 1929. He earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree from Texas Western College in 1956 and a Master
of Arts degree from the University of the Americas, Mexico City
in 1958.
Television and movie screens play a very important role in Casas's
series entitled Humanscapes. The artist says, "I can't
deal without propaganda… We are bombarded by this constantly
on TV." Casas had been more involved with sociopolitical and
economic problems and paying particular attention to the Mexican
American, the migrant worker, youth, and other "outsider" groups.
Casas has had one-man shows in Mexico City, El Paso, San Antonio,
and Seguin, Texas.
